[Does it leak?] Why I bought the MontBell Alpine Thermo Bottle and how I used it.

I purchased an “Alpine Thermo Bottle 0.5L” from Montbell in January 2021.

In this article, I will review why I purchased the Alpine Thermo Bottle 0.5L and its design.

Why I bought the Alpine Thermo Bottle 0.5L

I was also recommended the Yama-Sen bottle and compared them both.
I chose the Alpine Thermo Bottle 0.5L.

The reason.

Because I liked the design!

There is no other reason than this.

Anyway, it is simple and cool looking.

There is no double screw stopper with double inner closure, which means fewer parts, easier washing, and lower price.
It must have cost about 2,000 yen less than a bottle of Yamasen.

Since there is little difference in both heat and cold retention, I chose it for its design.

Heat retention was also not a concern, as the difference was 2 or 3 degrees Celsius after 24 hours.
(In the first place, it’s 500 ml, so 24 hours later it’s all consumed.)

It was examined in detail on this blog.

Since I am not a winter mountaineer, I wanted something somewhat stylish, insulating, and lightweight.
So I chose the Montbell Alpine Thermo Bottle 0.5L.

What does the design of the Alpine Thermo Bottle 0.5L look like?

It’s super simple and cool.

The lid is easy to open even when wearing thick gloves and the design is nice, so I am sure it will come in handy in the future.

Since it consists of only a few parts, it is easy to wash.

Causes of water leakage even after tightening the lid.

I have carried it around full of hot water many times now and it has never leaked.

However, if not used correctly, water may leak.

Moisture remains on the lid.

It is rudimentary, but if water remains in the lid area, water will flow out after tightening it.

Gasket is attached upside down.

Gasket looks the same top and bottom, but there is a correct orientation.
It is easy to make a mistake if you are not careful.

The inner plug is open.

If a cup is attached with the inner stopper open, water may leak out.

How about heat retention?

There was one day when I turned on the boiling water at 5:00 a.m. and didn’t get home until 10:00 p.m. without using the hot water.
When I touched the hot water to see how hot it was when I dumped it out, I was surprised to see how hot it was.

It may be lukewarm for coffee, but it was kept hot enough to warm the body.
(The temperature was not measured…)

A few not-so-good points

I’m raving about the design so much, but I’m actually a little curious about this one…

Easy to get dust on rubber parts

As you can see, dust tends to stick to the silicone rubber part quite easily.

I think it may be because I bought the gunmetal color, but it is quite noticeable up close.

The silicone rubber part is removable, so it can be washed in water if it gets dirty.

What do you think of the size of the Alpine Thermo Bottle 0.5L?

As you can see from the photo, it is just the right size to hold in one hand.

I put it in my bag and it doesn’t get in the way that much, so I fill it with hot water and go to the gym or office.

まとめ

So far we have reviewed the Alpine Thermobottle 0.5L.

Since it is designed for mountaineering, it is also durable enough to withstand some harsh environments and has excellent cold and heat retention capabilities.

It’s stylish enough to take to the office and I don’t want to use a regular thermal bottle…
I would recommend it to anyone who thinks it is a good idea.

The price is also reasonable, in the 3,000 yen range. (As expected from mont-bell).

Rakuten and Amazon are relatively expensive (about 1.5 times more), so we recommend visiting the official website or authorized retailers when purchasing.
